  39. I'm pretty sure Ernie was referring to the paper by Witkin and Kass
  40. in the '88 SIGGRAPH Proceedings, which describes computing Luxo's
  41. motion under such conditions as minimizing muscle power (this is no
  42. doubt the paper that Kevin is thinking of too).  I definitely agree
  43. with Kevin that skilled human animators beat procedural tricks (for
  44. the next few years at least).  It was interesting to hear two of
  45. the Jurassic Park animators, in response to a question from the
  46. audience at a local SIGGRAPH meeting, say that they didn't really
  47. even want fancier physics tools - they preferred to hand animate
  48. almost everything.

  50. Getting back to LightWave, let me just say that there will be some
  51. inverse kinematics features built into 4.0, but dynamics will be
  52. left to plug-ins, which is as it should be I think, considering
  53. that physical simulation is such an open-ended topic.
